Student Testimonials
At New Horizons of Minnesota, we take a great deal of pride in our employees and our instructors because serving our customers is our number one goal. So what do our students say? Check out a few of the student testimonials we've received in the past few months:
Greetings,
I'm writing to tell you a success story, made possible by one of your staff that I'd like you to know about.
My name is [Anonymous]. I was recently laid off when my employer moved to another state. Even though I've been a DBA for many years, I had gaps in my knowledge that made it hard to compete for jobs. I have trained with New Horizons for many years on single courses as my employers' needs dictated, so I was familiar with NHMN. I knew that NHMN could probably help me, but I was only thinking about traditional classroom methods and wasn't sure if what I needed would be on the schedule.
I was referred to Eric Miller as my training advisor, and I'm glad I was. Eric listened to my situation and needs, and looked beyond what I was telling him I needed and saw that I had a lot more possibilities to explore. Instead of just the single course I was thinking about, Eric recommended a training package in the Mentored Learning Lab. He laid out a path through the training that let me get the course I needed, but also fill in all the gaps and explore new technologies. To make it even better, Eric clued me into the Microsoft certification possibilities from the training I would get. Also, Eric has worked well with the MN state staff to figure out the details of WorkForce payment for the courses.
In the end, I finished all the coursework as planned, with a few days left over before I start my job to spend with my family. I have a job starting Monday, with the new employer eager for me to start. I have passed the exam for the MCTS certification, and have passed the first of the exams for the MCITP certification. The exams and certification are my icing on the cake, making a great outcome even better.
I also need to add that you have a great support staff that makes New Horizons a very pleasant place to spend a month. From the lab instructors to the front desk to those working behind the scenes (and don't forget the wonderful break room with the food!), everyone contributed to making every day a positive experience.
I will be back to New Horizons for future training, and I don't hesitate to recommend New Horizons to others.
Thank you,

If I was to recommend anyone as a training provider, it would have to be New Horizons of Minnesota. Citrix invited me to participate in the development of the XenApp (Presentation Server 4.5) Admin course a little while back. This included a full walk-through of the course which was presented by Dan Villanti from NHMN, he was quite outstanding.

Leslie Durhman has a remarkable personality and the patience of a saint. There were a few participants in the class that spent more time talking and playing catch up than following the class. She was able to bring focus back to the class and added humor for those that had no trouble following or paying attention. You can tell that teaching is in her soul.

I recently took an eight-hour class on Power Point with instructor Helen Krone. She is absolutely the best! I am a retired nurse who started a new career in the business world and things like Power Point can be overwhelming to someone like me. Helen made it so enjoyable and taught at a level I could understand, without making me feel inadequate. I’ll be taking more classes with New Horizons because of Helen. She is simply really, really good.

I took PowerPoint, Level 1 with Mark Slade, and I've been telling everyone that it was one of the best classes I've attended in over a decade! The class moved at a good pace, the room was comfortable and even though the wallpaper guys were around, they did not effect the overall learning experience. Mark was an excellent instructor, and I was very impressed and pleased that he made sure to answer all of my questions.

In my humble opinion, the key to teaching someone is to first get them to want to learn. People don’t want to learn from someone they don’t consider credible. Dan Villanti did a good job of establishing his credibility and presenting the material. He knew the information and was willing to admit when he did not. He was willing to say he did not know but would check into it for us. That gave me a lot of respect for him. I also enjoyed the hands-on atmosphere of the class. The virtual machine environment allowed us to play around and not be afraid of taking anything down. That’s a great guess and test environment, and I enjoyed learning in it.

Lu Patrick came to Hamline last year for one day of mentoring in packaging applications, working with three of us. With Lu's assistance and knowledge we were able to package an application we had been having trouble with. In addition, we were able to gain new skills and increase our awareness of packaging tools and resources. Of particular help to us was sorting out MSI components and features, AdminStudio help as a resource, the Windows Installer database, editing MSI properties and downloadable third-party tools. As we had hoped, Lu customized her approach to our situation and let our questions lead the process, which was just what we wanted.
